Once Upon a Time…
Eagle’s Wings Camp is nestled between thick forests and sheep pastures near Ergli, Latvia. In 2002, two missionary couples discussed a vision to start a new Christian camp. They visited several places in Latvia and felt special guidance from God to purchase a property near the town of Ergli for this camp – A place where children and young people could experience God’s presence, hear the gospel message, and spend an unforgettable time.
The very first camps were held in a meadow. Just inside the forest, an outdoor kitchen was set up. Campers slept in teepees, ran through the mud, and enjoyed time with faithful leaders who, through their lives, shared the majesty and love of God. The first Eagle’s Wings campers were not bothered by the mud or the fact that they had to eat outside and sleep in the teepees. The joy they experienced was more important than cozy accommodations. In time, a pond was dug, and the first cabin was built. With this single cabin, we were able to accommodate up to 20 campers per camp. Today we can accommodate up to 80 campers!
As time goes on, the camp continues to develop. Six evangelical camps for children and youth have been held every summer at Eagle’s Wings in recent years, including a camp for orphans. We’ve had up to 400 campers during the summer season. Through these camps, we want children and youth to feel God’s presence and love, to experience the faith, fun, and friendship that is the motto of Eagle’s Wings. It is such a joy to see young people enjoying time with others in healthy relationships and opening their hearts to the good news of Jesus.
A Place Where You Feel Like Family
Eagle’s Wings is a place to feel God’s presence, love, and joy. A place where you feel like family. The place you want to return to. Ultimately, the mission of Eagles Wing’s Camp is to train up these youth up to be lights in a dark world (Philippians 2:12-18).
The name “Eagle’s Wings” is derived from Isaiah 40:31. “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
